Parmentier – Tervueren junction – improvements by Bruxelles Mobilité

In September 2023, many local residents complained about a reduction in the duration of the green light phase for leaving Avenue Parmentier and entering the Parmentier/Tervueren/Souverain crossroads. As the municipality has not been informed of any changes to the traffic lights, it has contacted Bruxelles Mobilité. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the Region has failed to consult with the municipality on issues that affect inhabitants on a daily basis.

The Region, which has now undertaken to work closely with the municipality, explained that it had modified the phase of the traffic lights at the crossroads in order to reduce conflicts between users. The junction is in fact a ‘ZACA’, or accident-prone zone. According to the Region, this is mainly due to the fact that vehicles coming from Boulevard du Souverain and heading towards Montgomery or Boulevard de la Woluwe cross the path of cyclists as they cross Avenue de Tervueren. The same problem occurs with vehicles coming from Parmentier and heading towards the 4 Arms.

To resolve this, Bruxelles Mobilité has separated the green light phases for Souverain on the one hand, and Parmentier on the other. The green light time is therefore more limited than before this change.

While the municipality can only welcome an initiative aimed at improving safety at a crossroads previously considered dangerous, it regrets that the green light phase for leaving Parmentier is so short. She has asked for it to be extended. This is currently being examined by the Region.
